What laptop specs to look for?

What laptop specs to look for?

Ask
I like to use Photoshop CS3 (1GB RAM), and maybe some games that i will torrent (but i dont want to pay a bunch extra just so i can run cod4 or counter strike), i have good eyes so i dont necessarily need a big screen, im using 77GB of HD space now and i dont think ill need much more... just a bit more, i had a 2.1GHz HP, the 2.1GHz was good but the model i bought had a chip set problem so i sold it asap. how low should i go for processor speed? 1.8GHz? ill be using the laptop everyday to sure the web, msn, aim, that kind of stuff. i dont want anything that will be overkill for what i use. is a netbook what im looking for? any comments?

Answer
For your photoshop needs, its better to get a dualcore 2.0ghz or above with at least 2gb of RAM (i suggest 3gb or 4gb if you have vista). Get as much harddrive space as you can with ur budget. Eventhough u only use 77gb now, it is only going to get bigger, soyou don't want to limit yourself, as for gaming. If you want to run just counter strike, then any moderate graphic card will do. However if you want to run cod4 effiently, you will need at least a geforce 8 series.

I'm trying to get a laptop for college and one I can use to do my music with. I know powerbooks are mostly the standard. Somebody give me the low down on them.

Answer
They're convenient and mobile (obviously). Do some research and some pricing. It's hard to make a judgement call on the quality of a laptop oppose to a Desktop because, if you spend $900 on a Desktop, you know you're getting a pretty good quality PC. It's not really like that with a laptop. The next time you stop in an electronics joint, ask some questions and write some stuff down. It Also depends where your pockets are because you can get an Apple iBook with a G5 in it and be finished for around $1,200.

Answer

yea, I would rather use a desktop but my pops is only getting me a laptop since it's for college.
My fam is mad cheap so electronics joint is outta the question
But is there something you would recommend as far as music goes?

Keep in mind that a Sony Vaio means taht your are getting a PC, and that means you can only run software made for a PC. If you get a Powerbook, that means you are getting a Macintosh, and that measn you will only use software made for a Macintosh. They aren't interchangeable. If you are going to college, find out in advance what they prefer you to have.

Processor Type/Speed: I don't know if it should be a pentium or what
Faster is always better. My suggestion would be a Centrino processor PC laptop with a 1.7GHz or better CPU.

Yep, that's what I'd do you don'r NEEEED anything more that XP Home, but XP Professional could be handy if you plan on taking any computer networking courses.

If you want to do music, I consider 1GB to be the minimum. If you can't get the 'rents to spring for that much, make sure you can upgrade later.

Thank you for reading the frequently asked questions about the specifications of the laptop that we take from yahoo answer and forums.
